The beleaguered Tanzanian national airline suffered another setback yesterday, when one of its remaining aircraft, an aged B737-200 crashed while attempting to take off from the lakeside town of Mwanza.

As many as 50 vessels have been trapped in ice in the Baltic Sea, with a number of passenger ferries among those stranded.
Many of the vessels were attempting to navigate passage from Finland to Sweden, subsequently becoming stuck in the Gulf of Bothnia or Baltic Sea.

A pilot suspected of flying using a fake licence for over a decade has been arrested whilst preparing for take-off in a jet bound for Turkey with 101 passengers on-board.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG slipped to a €112 million (£100 million) loss in 2009, as the global airline industry struggled to cut capacity in the face of falling demand.
The loss at the Cologne-based company compared with a net profit of €542 million (£490 million) for the financial year 2008.
